Hello friends and family!
Some reminders for this week:
Fifth graders will be wearing the following for their song in the Christmas program. Please make sure that they come in costume at 6:30pm this Wednesday.
-Black pants (no sweatpants, jeans are o.k.)
-Long sleeved white t-shirts
-Black shoes
-Black scarves
-Black or White mittens/gloves
Also, our class will be having a Christmas party this Friday. A notice has been sent home to each parent for a parent signature. Please make sure to sign the notice and have your child return it to me.
Students are expected to bring $5 to go toward pizza for the class, and one other item from the list. Some of the students already signed up for particular items in class--ask your child.
Friday is also FREE DRESS :)
Over break:
Students will be receiving work over break, including two reading logs. Please make sure that this work is completed and returned to class the Monday following break, January 3rd, 2010 (More details to come!)

Week of 12/6
Hello students and family!
This week we have moved onto a new story, "The Fear Place". What are some of your fears? What is your Fear Place? The new spelling and vocabulary words have been posted on the left side of the page.
In Science, we are learning about The Water Cycle and the three different states of water: solid, liquid, and gas. Refer to the image below:

Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you to those of you who have sent in $1 for the Math-A-Thon and canned foods for our school drive! Please continue raising money for St. Jude's and bringing in canned food for our school drive! The deadline for both is this Wednesday, November 24th, 2010.
This week:
-Students will be quizzed on the digestive and respiratory system this Tuesday, November 23rd.
-Students will be tested on Math: Topic 3 this Wednesday, November 24th.
Reminders:
-This Wednesday is early dismissal @ 12:00P.
-Also, whole school mass is this Wednesday @ 8a, please remember to come in full uniform!

This Tuesday, November 16th, is our Math-A-Thon to raise money for the children at St. Jude's Hospital. We are asking that you join our cause and support your child by sponsoring them with $1, or more if you are able. We really appreciate your continued support!

- Wednesday: 8a mass with the 1st grade!
-Friday: Early dismissal!
-Canned food drive this week and next! Please bring in canned food and $1 to support those in need!

+ This week we begin collecting money for next week's Math-A-Thon. The Math-A-Thon is to help St. Jude's Children hospital. Please support our goal by sponsoring your child with $1 (or as much as you are able). Our community at St. Raphael can make a difference for the children at St. Jude's Hospital. I hope everyone's Halloween was fun and safe! We're back at school for another great week!
In Language Arts we are starting our new theme, "Give it All You've Got", along with our first selection from the theme, "Michelle Kwan: Heart of a Champion". The new spelling and vocabulary words can be found on the left side of the blog.
Your children should be bringing home a Spelling + Vocabulary/Language Arts packet that is to be completed by this Friday, November 5th.
Please remember that Reading Logs are checked each day and turned in each Monday! They are an easy way to gain points and contribute to the class Reading/Language Arts grade.
Announcements:
-This Friday is a short day with dismissal at 12 noon!
-There is no school on November 11th, 2010 for Veterans' Day.

-The fifth grade will be attending mass Wednesday morning due to not having attended last Wednesday as a result of the rain.
-Friday is the Halloween parade/carnival, students MUST bring $5 to school by this Wednesday the 27th to pay for Friday's lunch.
-Grades are due this Friday the 29th, which also marks the end of the first quarter. Extra credit has been made available to those students that need it. If you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail or telephone!
-Please have your child bring a plain white shirt in their size by this Thursday the 28th that you don't mind getting painted/colored. If you are unable to do so, please let me know.

Friday: Selection 3 Test "Volcanoes, Math Topic 2 Test

We are beginning our new selection, "Volcanoes", in Language Arts. The spelling and vocabulary words can be found on the left side of the site.
Students will have a Reading Comprehension Test for "Eye of the Storm" on Tuesday in addition to a mini-quiz in math on rounding.
Wednesday is mass with the 1st grade so please be on time!
The Sponsor luncheon is on Friday from 11:30a-1p.
Remember that Reading Logs are due EVERY MONDAY and checked for completion every morning.
Grades are finalized in less than two weeks! It is the last opportunity to raise your grades, so every assignment counts!

This week we are finishing up our IOWA Testing and beginning our CoGat testing. Testing will be in the mornings so please make sure your child has had plenty of rest and breakfast!
